31 July 2012 - RES receives consent for Glenchamber Wind Farm
Leading renewable energy developer RES, has welcomed today's decision by the Scottish Government to give Glenchamber Wind Farm the green light.
The 11 turbine wind farm, located between New Luce, Kirkcowan and Glenluce, is expected to generate electricity equivalent to the average annual demand of more than 14,000 Scottish households - or approximately 20% of the households in Dumfries and Galloway.
Heather Donald, RES Development Project Manager, said: "We are delighted with the positive decision made by the Scottish Government today. Glenchamber is an ideal location for a wind farm. Harnessing the wind is an efficient, reliable and sustainable way to supply clean energy for people living in Scotland. The wind farm will also provide significant economic and social benefits for the local community."
Dumfries and Galloway Council originally refused the application in 2011 based on environmental and social impact. However, in the report published today the reporter confirmed that Glenchamber Wind Farm will not result in unacceptable cumulative landscape or visual impacts. RES will establish a community fund of around £50,000 a year to support organisations and good causes based in the communities close to the wind farm for the lifetime of its operation.
RES lodged an appeal with the Scottish Government Directorate for Planning and Environmental Appeals, following Dumfries and Galloway Council's refusal of the planning application in 2011.

RES to consider its options following refusal of Glenchamber Wind Farm
RES has expressed its disappointment at today's decision by Dumfries and Galloway's Planning Applications Committee to refuse planning permission for Glenchamber Wind Farm. The 11 turbine project located between New Luce, Kirkcowan and Glenluce could generate electricity equivalent to the average demand of more than 14,000 households - or approximately 20% of the households in Dumfries and Galloway.
